Dental Floss

There are two types of floss: waxed and unwaxed.Unwaxed floss cleans teeth better, but if the floss shreds between the teeth, use waxed floss.

A 30 to 45 centimeter (12 to 18 inch) length of floss is wrapped around the middle finger of one hand and positioned over the tips of the index fingers.

The index fingers should be about 2 1/2 centimeters (1 inch) apart and the floss is worked between the teeth with a slight back and forth shoe shining motion, until it passes through the contact points between the teeth.

The floss is then wrapped around the tooth, forming a C shape, and moved up and down the tooth surface. Once one surface is cleaned, it can be wrapped around the other tooth surface to be cleaned. The floss should then be pulled out from between the teeth. The same procedure is repeated for all teeth.
