Body Building Nutrition

Several nutrients combine to build the body and to keep it in good condition (repair) throughout the life of an individual. These nutrients are proteins and some minerals. One of the most important of these is protein which is found in every cell of the body. Proteins are found both in the animal and vegetable food. They provide material for body growth (build tissue) and for the wear and tear of the tissues (repair tissue) and stimulate metabolism. Proteins are also components of enzymes. All proteins, however, are not of equal nutritive value. Their nutritive value depends on their aminoacid contents. Animal proteins such as milk and meat contain all the essential amino acids, whereas no plant protein contains all the essential amino acids. It would be desirable that our diet includes proteins from both the sources. Animal proteins such as milk, milk products, eggs, fish and meat are mainly used as body building nutrition. Therefore there is a need for adequate pulse protein in the diet.
