Dry Eyes - Causes and Treatment
Dry eyes occur when the tear glands are not producing enough tears. Your eyes will feel itchy, scratchy, and irritated. Dry eyes may be associated with certain medications (diuretics, antihistamines, decongestants, and antidepressants).
Home Treatment
Try an over-the-counter artificial tear solution, such as Akwa Tears, Duratears, or HypoTears. Do not use eyedrops that reduce eye redness (such as Visine) to treat dry eyes.
When to Call a Health Professional
Call if dry eyes are persistent and artificial tears do not help. Excessive dryness can damage your eyes.
