Fruit Nutrition
All fruits are alkaline and cleanse the body beautifully, particularly if eaten with the skins intact and well washed: much of the goodness of most fruit lies in the skin or just beneath it, so don't peel it. A whole apple - skin, well-chewwd pips and all - is much richer in magnesium than apple juice and, if you can bear to eat a lemon with its skin, the amount of B and C vitamins, protein, iron and potassium more than doubles.Dried fruits bought from a good supplier are an excellent source of minerals and enzymes.
There is strong evidence that cancers of the respiratory and digestive tract are fewer in incidence in communities where there is a high level of intake of fruit and vegetables, particularly the yellow and green varieties. In recent years a suggested mechanism has been proposed which links the antioxidant nutrients found in fruit and vegetables to the prevention of oxidative damage to the DNA by free radicals, and hence the initiation of damage. These nutrients also protect lipids in cellular membranes and may contribute to the stabilization of cells.
