Skin Tips for Sun junkies
Ask any dermatologist, and she'll
tell you to stay out of the sun between
10:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.m., when the
sun is rays are strongest. While that's
sound advice, we're women) not vam
pires. Some of us live in sunny cli
mates, some of us spend weekends in
our gardens, and others love to golf or
play tennis. If you must bask, follow
the tips below. They will help to
44 super boost" your sun protection.
Use your head to save your skin. While in intense sun, wear a hat with a brim that's at least 4 inches wide (think: a Mae West size chapeau). Forget the sailor hats and baseball caps; neither offers much protection from full bore sun, says Dr. jaliman.
Take a cue from Foster Grant. Wear wraparound sunglasses designed
to block 95 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays, says Dr. jaliman. Why wraparounds? They will protect your eyes from harmful UV rays while completely blocking the crow Is foot
zone.
Be slightly shady. While out in intense sun, periodically retreat to a shady spot, says Dr. Jaliman. At the beach, park yourself under a big umbrella. Also, while on hikes or on the water, if it's not too hot out, wear tightly woven clothing. It will help keep UV rays from penetrating your skin. But if you'll fry, wear at least a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen.
